Blog Mood

One of the websites I am constantly obsessed with is Etsy.com. It's showcase for anyone who would like to sell their handmade wears. I like to use it because I know I am buying handmade quality products I can't anywhere else while helping artists make a living. Some of the items are so amazing.

Here are some of the items I have in my Favorites right now:

What I really like are the first two sets of earrings with "kidney hooks." I saw a pair of earings the other day with that kind of hook and I thought it was really interesting. If I had a good chunk of change, I would spend it almost solely on this website! When you are looking for a good, unique gift, think Etsy.com.
On this dreary day I just had to share with you one of the weirdest, if not the weirdest, experience I have had at USM.

Yesterday I am sitting on my bed reading Beowulf for my British Literature class. I hear the door open and I look up. A black girl, probably a year younger than me, stares back at me.

ME: Hi! Can I help you?
HER: This is not my room is it?
ME: Nope. Can I help you find your room though?
HER: What room is this?
ME: (I tell her my room number)
HER: OH MY GOSH! I live in (exact same room and number but the room directly above me). I must have gotten off the elevator on the wrong floor and just thought this was it.
ME: Hey, it's cool. Weirder stuff has happened to me (not really).
HER: Ok, well, I am going to go now. You have a good day. I am so sorry!

I think I will be locking my room from now on... just sayin'.

Fay, Fay GO AWAY

Are you seeing this? If you don't know where Hattiesburg is, it is right smack in the middle of all of this! This weekend I went home to get my iPhone (another post about that later) and was enjoying being home when my roommate, Maggie, text me saying she is heading back to Hattiesburg. Eagle Alert (the USM alert system that alerts about events such as shootings, hurricanes, and other matters) is telling all students that Tropical Storm Fay is coming towards and will stall over Hattiesburg. (Sigh)

So, I pack up all of my things and head back to Hattiesburg. The winds are definitely up but I have yet to see rain! We shall see how that goes. Hattiesburg is supposedly supposed to get anywhere between 5 and 15 inches of rain the coming days.

More on this later!

First Day of School

If you had to go to school today, I hope you had a good one. I, like many, did just that. Except, it poured and poured and poured some more today. Granted, it wasn't all at once. As I speak there is sun beaming into my room but it a couple of minutes it will probably be raining again.

When I was walking back to my dorm about 30 minutes ago, I got completely soaked. The ends of my pants were dripping and there was no hope of wearing them for the rest of the day.

When I got back, they looked like this:

How ridiculous is that?? Thank goodness I was not walking to class.

Why hello! I know I haven't posted in a while. I've been super busy getting ready for school. I moved in yesterday and it's been crazy ever since. As I am sure all of you are wondering, this is how the dorm room turned out (so far). It's still very empty and I will be bringing more stuff in next weekend when I go home to get my iPhone (whoo hoo!).

We Were Walking Downtown

Wednesday night was terribly fun because JFP had their Jackpedia/Intern/Open House. It was lots of fun for the end of the summer. Sort of bittersweet because it marks the end of summer and my summer stay there. Good thing I will be back at Christmas!

My last article is here.

Honestly, it was one of my favorite ones to do.

After the open house we had a staff after party at JoAnne Pritchard Morris' house. I had lots of fun with everyone. It's nice to see people outside the office. If you don't know, JPM is Willie Morris' wife/widow. Her house is amazing (Ashley- she's a few streets over from you on Arlington) with AMAZING furniture (Cow hide and fur covered Wassily chairs). It was a fun time.

It's been fun but I am ready to be back in the 'Burg. I already have my first assignment for the Printz (not hard at all) and I have begun to park. Whoo hoo!

Here's to another great year.

Hi again! I just got back from a week end trip with my friends to Atlanta. We had lots of fun and shopped alot. My favorite place we went was Ikea. I got tons of great things for next year. Here is some of the stuff I got.

The last lamp is my favorite. Everything in Ikea is so fun and different from what you can find at home. A week from today I will be back in Hattiesburg.

I guess this warrants a second post, so here it goes.

My last week of my internship (this past week) I worked on a story about Gov. Barbour and the controversy over pardoning a handful of (and possibly more) prisoners sentenced to life sentences for murders (4 out of 5 were domestic).

Well, the story Ronni and I wrote was mentioned in a story on CBSnews.com .

"The Jackson Free Press noted this week that Barbour has granted pardons to five other killers this year, at least two of whom were (like Graham) convicted of killing former or current girlfriends."

It's really cool to see that my work is making a difference not only in local pools but nationally as well.

'ello Again!

Howdy there! I'm back from the natural state of Arkansas with photos. You wouldn't believe how hard I struggled to get these back to you. I almost died on the side of a mountain for them! Well, I felt like I was going to die and it probably was because it was 103 degrees outside. But nevertheless...

Our lovely cabin on Petit Jean Mountain.

Mary Grace at the beginning of the TRAIL OF DEATH. Not really, but it felt like it.

Apparently Arkansas likes to make fun of their country ways.

If you have never been on a trip with the McNeil's, you probably haven't heard about this disease called Hoogachakaleenia (Who-GAH- Chock-a-len-EE-yah). That's right, Hoogachakaleenia. It's a disease you get in the car with symptoms of irritability, red face, short temper among other things. Right about this picture, Hoogachakaleenia has started to take hold.

The End.
